Not many people know that RAP is actually an abbreviation for Rhythm and Poetry. In Bhutan RAP was never really looked at the same way as it is now. Not long ago, RAP was categorized into the kind of songs that only thugs and mischief would listen or sing. Having said that, RAP is now very well accepted by the Bhutanese audience.
With the onset of revolutionary modern music in Bhutan, came along the revolution of RAP. We are proud to say that some of the most popular rappers in Bhutan started their RAP journey with us such as the follows: 1. Sangay Wangchen 2. Drona 3. Kezang Dorji 4. Karma Euden Norbu 5. Nala 6. Leekzin Choden Dorji 7. Maynia 8. Dre Z D Although some rappers didn't start their journey with us, their layover, however, ended up with some of the highly trending RAPs in the history of Bhutan such as: 1. Kinely Wangchuk's Tshe-Dari and Houshang 2. JD's Nathay Bey Marey Long before all of these, Choeying Jatsho, the proprietor and Music Director of M-studio, probably created the first RAP in Bhutan "Bhutanese Gangsta" in 2002. Since then he has tried to give the RAP in Bhutan a new face and a new phase. Kezang Dorji's Ama Kadrinchey (a RAP sung in a local Bhutanese dialect Sharchop) was commended for being educational and that it promoted local Bhutanese dialects. It was also the first ever Sharchop RAP. Kezang Dorji promotes the Bhutanese language Dzongkha too by rapping mostly in it. Karma Euden Norbu started rapping at the age of 13 and became popular to be the first and also the youngest female Bhutanese rapper. Nala is another rapper who RAPs exclusively in Dzongkha. His RAPs usually have very deep meanings that are mostly his realizations and lessons learned in life. Leekzin Choden Dorji made a mark in the RAP scenario by singing probably the fastest Dzongkha RAP ever 'Jonna Majonna'. You can find all these songs in the playlist that we have compiled below: 29th May, 2014 shall be marked a historical day to us because we pulled of our first concert ever.
